Interstate Signs Replacement Project
KPFF, Oregon Department of Transportation
In 2018, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) undertook a highway sign replacement project on I-84 and I-5. This improvement project required extensive notification and planning to accommodate the lane and highway closures.
LCA assisted prime contractor KPFF and ODOT in developing a communication strategy describing the benefits, scope, timeline, construction impacts, and other relevant information about the project. LCA then implemented this public outreach plan through mailings and electronic communication, as well as face-to-face meetings with residents and business owners in the project areas. We produced online content through the real-time project map and through an informational YouTube video. By providing online and in-person engagement, we were able to reach people affected by the project construction in a timely way. This multi-tiered approach helped the project run smoothly and helped people affected by the project stay informed and feel that their input was sought and valued.
