The Portland Building Reconstruction Project
The Portland Building, the administrative center for the City and home of the iconic Portlandia statue, is faced with a deteriorated building envelope, structure, and operational systems. A five-year, $195 million project has begun, to reconstruct this iconic city landmark which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The project aims to create a resilient building that will meet community and workplace needs for years to come.
LCA is engaging many stakeholders in this complex project: neighbors and others immediately impacted by construction, interest groups, and residents throughout the City. Working with the City and with the owner’s representative, DAY CPM – a division of OTAK, LCA is developing public involvement strategy, gathering public input and sharing information about the project from concept design until ribbon-cutting. LCA organized a Portland Building student design contest for students at Ron Russell Middle School in outer Southeast Portland, so that they could learn about the project and contribute their ideas for design of its public spaces.
