BUILDING STUDENT PRIDE IN THEIR NEW GREEN SCHOOL

Portland Public Schools/Concordia University, Faubion School Construction Project

Project Overview

As part of the Portland Public Schools (PPS) Building Improvement Bond of 2012, PPS designed and is rebuilding the Faubion School as a state-of-the-art, LEED Gold certified educational facility. The new school includes shared classrooms for Concordia University’s School of Education; the two schools have a unique partnership and are located across the street from each other.

LCA's Role

To help students from both schools learn about and engage in sustainability through the new school building, LCA designed and implemented the “Building Art Transitions (BAT) project.” Working together on the BAT project, Faubion and Concordia students created a Green Building User’s Guide highlighting the ways in which their new building is practicing sustainability through water and energy conservation, use of green materials, and features that enhance indoor health and comfort. LCA also helped students celebrate the connection between the two schools by having them create designs that were engraved in a pathway between Concordia and Faubion.
